Notes (updated Jan 10, 2012)
On Tuesday, Jan. 17, each student should bring in two printed copies of their draft lab report. On that day, we will be doing a peer-review of labs in class. Each student will have their lab reviewed by two other students in the class. Using feedback from the peer-review session, students will make revisions and have the final drafts of their labs ready for submission on Friday, Jan. 20.
On Monday, Jan. 23, completed poster boards are due. As with the lab reports, there will be a peer-review session in which posters will be presented to the entire class for review and comment. Final poster boards are due Jan. 25, although that day will be given over to preparing for the science fair and the student selection of the 'Top 10' projects from each class.
All Tech High Science students participate in the science fair. This is an opportunity for you, as a student, to explore some aspect of science and engineering that particularly fascinates you. Although this is a class project, you will have minimal time in class to work on it. the expectation is that most of the experimentation and writing is done at home. There are several benchmarks that you will meet during the course of the next several months. Those dates will be posted below-
Initial project discussion- Nov 29
Proposal of initial project idea(s)- Dec 2
Final selection of project- Dec. 6
Background research complete- Dec 13
Rough draft of Abstract/Purpose/Materials/Procedure due - Dec. 16
Science fair projects may be done in pairs.
Completed lab reports are due Jan 20.
Tech High Science Fair will be Jan 25, 2012.
Experimental Design Outline The first activity designed to help you correctly set up your science fair proposal.
Here's a list of project ideas and suggestions A good place to start gathering ideas.
Initial Planning Form This is the form you will submit for initial approval of your science fair project. All project ideas must be approved for complexity, difficulty and appropriateness. (Download, complete, print, turn-in. Hand-written submissions will not be accepted!)
